Kavirtire Company :
The tire is the linchpin of the transportation fleet in any society. In fact, it is impossible to envisage an economic life without tires. Iran is a vast country, with a widely scattered population and centers of economic activity. Long distances and inadequacies in the rail and air transport systems combine to place a heavy burden on the country’s ground transportation network, both in terms of passengers and freight, a fact that accords a special status to the tire sector as a key component of the country’s strategic industries. The tire industry in Iran has a history of over forty years, with the first tire manufacturing plant built in 1961. Apart from a few small manufacturers, all major tire factories in the country date from the period preceding the victory of the Islamic Revolution. Kavir Tire Company was founded on March 13, 1987, under the name of Birjand Tire Manufacturing Company, with an initial capital of one million rials, and was registered under license number 69300 with the Non-Commercial Companies and Organizations Registration Administration, in Tehran. As a result of the decision of the special general assembly on August 27, 1988, the company’s name was changed to Kavir Tire Company. Based on the vote of the general assembly of June 25, 1990, the company’s headquarters was established in Birjand, and the company was registered under license number 307 with the Registration Administration of the district of Birjand. According to the proceedings of the special general assembly of October 13, 2002, the company’s headquarters was relocated to Tehran and the company was registered under license number 69300 with the Non-Commercial Companies and Organizations Registration Administration. Based on the decision of the special general assembly of April 14, 2004, Kavir Tire became a listed company with a new charter. The initial objective in founding Kavir Tire Company was the establishment of a factory for the production of tires and related products, with an annual capacity of 25,500 tons. The construction of the manufacturing plant started in the second half of 1991 in a 112-hectare plot of land in the provincial city of Birjand, as a result of an agreement (# 639332) with the Ministry of Industries and Mines. After a great deal of effort and surmounting of a slew of problems, the new factory was completed with an annual capacity of 50,025 tons and was inaugurated by the minister of industry in October 1998. The factory’s first product arrived in the market on January 12, 1999. The total investment in the project was 330 billion rials plus 85 million dollars. Kavir Tire Company provides some 1,200 direct and 2,500 indirect employment opportunities. It has around 300 authorized dealers throughout Iran. The establishment of Kavir Tire factory in Southern Khorasan province has led to a whole host of social and economic developments. The creation of some 3,700 direct and indirect opportunities for the people of the region is one such outcome. Were each of these individuals to be considered as a head of a four-member family, it may be claimed that the company is providing livelihood for over 13,000 people. In fact, Kavir Tire Company is the largest employer in Southern Khorasan province, a deprived region with scarce employment opportunities.
